Bringing Foreclosure Assistance to Struggling Monroe Country Homeowners

In January, the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) organized a workshop at East Stroudsburg University in Monroe County, PA, to assist the more than 1,000 homeowners who are at risk of losing their homes due to foreclosure. The workshop, which was held in conjunction with four experienced Pennsylvania counseling agencies including Northwest Counseling Service (NWCS), offered a full day of free educational workshops and hands-on assistance to Monroe Country residents hoping to save their homes.

During the event, NWCS’s Director of Business, Mike Brown, spoke on the issue facing homeowners and was quoted as saying, “We’re gonna match them up with their mortgage company face to face and negotiate here on the spot. [The event] was set up as a one stop shop to help people in trouble. They can get help saving money on their energy bills, finding a job with CareerLink, or even credit counseling services.” For the complete article, visit the PA Homepage.

The event was first in a five-part series that will take place around the state to help mitigate a backlog of foreclosure case processing.
